2005 Playoffs
Major Season Events
Playoff races during the regular season were especially exciting.
Ahwatukee/River City/Baja all finished within 4 wins of each other
in the east, with Mark Bublak's Baja Banditos edging out RC by 1 game.
In the west, Costa Mesa and Hiroshima waged a great battle for a
playoff spot, with Hiroshima fading in the final few games.
The Midwest Marauders rode playoff MVP Amare Stoudemire through the
regular season (to a league-best 64 wins) and then to the franchise's
second title. Amare averaged 28.5 pts against Costa and 28.5 pts against
Tim Duncan and KCC. In the NBA playoffs the same season, Amare averaged
37 pts per game against Tim Duncan and the eventual champions, San
Antonio Spurs.
The last time Midwest won the championship, they had a starting lineup
consisting of Kevin Johnson, Jim Jackson, Patrick Ewing, Karl Malone,
and Shawn Kemp. Over the last 4 seasons, Midwest methodically rose
from worst to first. The franchise's wins over the last 4 seasons:
20, 30, 50, 64. The Marauders peaked at the right time; they practically
have no chance of repeating next year with the loss of Amare Stoudemire
for the whole season. Having undergone microfracture surgery on his
knee, Amare may never be the same.
